Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer

* Candidates having qualifications that exceed the minimum job requirements will receive consideration for higher level roles given (1) their experience, (2) additional job requirements, and/or (3) business needs. Depending on education, experience, and skill level, a variety of job opportunities might be available, including Principal R&D Mechanical Engineer OR R&D Mechanical Engineering Advisor



  • Research and develop new algorithms and control techniques to enable autonomous drilling activities
  • Analyze and apply advanced control theory for drilling system dynamics, i.e. fluid-pressure management, hole cleaning, drilling dynamics, directional control, etc.
  • Perform analysis utilizing drilling data to improve model accuracy and/or control robustness.
  • Develop learning and/or pattern recognition algorithms using advanced statistical methods
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and product teams to integrate control solutions and models into product development.
  • Contributes to Halliburton’s Intellectual Property portfolio by delivering innovative and commercially successful solutions.



  • MS with 2+ years’ experience or PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline
  • Experience with fluid mechanics or dynamic modeling with emphasis on control theory
  • Experience with advanced data analytics is highly desired
  • Experience with MATLAB
  • Advanced knowledge in fluid and/or structural mechanics



Experience with Simulink, C++, .NET, and/or Python is a plus
